Louis Theroux is a master documentary maker. He can disarm his subjects and solicit their true intentions through a few words. That’s what makes his new film The Settlers so piercing. He remarkably brings to a broader audience the real machinations of the Israeli state and its settler colonial logic.
Probably the stand-out moment for me is when he gets the ‘godmother’ of the settler movement, Daniela Weiss, to openly admit that settlement activity is part of a Zionist plan to chip away, acre by acre, house by house, at Palestinian possessions. ‘We do not force the state, we help the state’, she shrieks. In other words, the state utilises settler expansion to consolidate its gradual gains and eliminate Palestinian life.
This film, together with his brilliant 2011 documentary, The Ultra Zionists, makes a compelling watch.
Pass it around to your friends and work colleagues.

"Godmother' too nice a term and offensive to godmothers everywhere!! More like the evil Settlers' Sorceress. I'm sure she's best friends with the Shaytan. I can't watch her. I get physically ill.
My God, may the veils on their hearts be lifted. To be a human being on this planet where humans of all tribes have lived and thrived and traded for civilizations - how can the thinking be ‘me, my own, and no one else’? What God is that?
