Utterly pains me. I am aware of it often, thinking of what is happening every moment to the people of Gaza.

Theologically Judaism is in crisis. I would put it this way:

Do we have here a people divinely given a piece of land, exclusively to be theirs? In what way could this be lived out? As a myth or in fundamentalist actuality?

In the later there is a grave danger God can be co-opted into pogroms and ethnic cleansing to make it theirs.

Remember, in the original sacred story as today, there were others already there.
