I love your podcast and it is rather a breath of fresh air. I think it is fair and impartial. I cannot find anything similar and you are loved amongst the older youth and men here in America. It is a very unique breath of fresh air because your guests are great minds. I would like of course something shorter, but I do not mind the length at all. I listen to it in my car, in my home, and it can take some time to finish one, but you do a great job of engagement and changing the questions around. Your editing is great. I would suggest adding some segments relating to the use in tech and how Muslims are using tech to advance socially and politically. Besides tech, more on Islamic Finance. One of your best ones on this topic was with the Cordoba guy - which was an excellent piece! I would suggest inviting more American academics and thought leaders, tech leaders, young people. I think we need more perspective as opposed to political activists.
Love your podcast. I got to know you as my teacher during one of your online courses. And I have been following the thinking Muslim since the beginning, and I felt you have put more effort and good work in. I plan to support you by subscribing soon. That's my intention, and may Allah accept it. The next step is the monetary side of things, and InshaAllah, I will do so real soon. So don't go away. Keep up doing this awesome job, Jalal. The one with Shadee was the best one so far. I love it when the mix of Americans and British Muslims mindsets comes together on one show.
I love your podcasts. I think there is a plethora of shorter commentaries out there, unfortunately mirroring the attention span nowadays. That is why I love the longer podcasts, even if they are less reactive and more thought-out. It's actually very refreshing. I might suggest a fusion of your thoughts, commentaty with the interview style I mostly experience on your podcast. A more conversational back and forth with your guests on occasion. Not every format fits every topic, or guest, or your own knowledge bank, so mix it up. But the longer format is a gift in my opinion. Thank you for what you do!!
Walaikum Assalam, I think the monologues could benefit from not being so scripted. At present, it feels almost as if you are reading aloud one of your (very excellent) newsletter articles. Perhaps instead of writing a full script, consider writing bullet points and speaking off of them, similar to Blogging Theology/Paul Williams' monologues. Jazakumulahukhayrun
Real long term effects happen via grass roots efforts, I would say focus on those ie like the liberalism course, other campaigns etc.
Re podcast, I think general themes are good. Dont rush to publish… hastiness begets errors.. think, consult, do istikhara. It’s better to be slow than fast paced just because thats what people want. Dont be an indirect victim of the algorithm.
Think about the ppl you host. The way you hate George Galloway for unethical stances, consider the “Islamic” views of some of your guests which may be deemed heterodox.
Improve your engagement with shar3i sciences. It would be helpful to include our Islamic academic heritage within the general discourse and approach. This could mean guests, but I mean specifically you as a host.
There’s so many good things which other ppl have listed. Above just focuses on some areas I think a revisit or rethink is needed.
My favorite episodes are those that bridge knowledge and action like the interviews with Dr. Sohail Hanif and Imam Dawud Walid. I would be interested in short form takes on recent events. I've pitched this idea to another Muslim in media before: we need a Muslim version of World Watch News. As a mother I want to feel informed and raise my kids to be knowledgeable, critical thinkers.
I've learnt so much from you and your guests over the last 2 years so Jazak Allah khair. I've shared so many of the episodes with my family and friends and those interested in the going ons of the Ummah. My interest are wide and varied and your topics mirror that but I'd love to see you engage more with stories from around the Ummah. I'm from the Caribbean with South Asian heritage and we have so much in common with Muslims in the West with the same heritage and cultural struggles. Maybe more on family and finding a balance living in the West - hard and soft boundaries especially for teens and University students. May Allah swt continue to bless you and your team.
I think more writting should be produced, but with a bit more explanation. As if you explain the concepts involved in a bit more depth.
Because I have read various articles of yours on this website, they are very short. As you write in very precise manner, so for those who are new or untrained in this area ( as I guess most people are ), it becomes difficult for them to grasp full idea
These are my thoughts, hope they will be beneficial.....
my first thought is Gratitude for what you are showing me. I realize that contemporary events are inescapably compelling and I benefit from the perspectives you bring to the table. But I also deeply appreciate the history, the passion, and the introduction to Islam. I am new to this world. I got a Quran in the 1990s, but did not read deeply. What I hear makes me want to go back for more. Beginning to understand more about passionate differences of thought in the Islamic world and reaching for unity in the face of this historical moment. Please be assured that what you are doing is of great value, and I trust your judgement and that of the people you reach out to bring forward on your show.
Assalamu Alaikum, I really enjoy the long form videos, they are really simple and provide engaging conversation without all the background noise I’ve seen on other podcasts. I have watched the most recent monologue piece and think fits well with the brand in keeping up with current events, only recommendation would be to maybe have more articles or videos versus the just talking at the screen, although that’s a personal opinion and it could work better as you post more content, but it’s just something I am not used to at this minute. For Substack articles I’m new on here so no feedback, but I am sure it’s great!
JazakAllah Khair to you and your teams efforts to post engaging Islamic content
I love the long informative podcast. I would like to see more variety of guests as Nasser Nahshal proposed. We all benefit from knowledge.
Thank you Mr. Jalal. Your podcast is the best and I am always looking forward to listen to the new episodes. My favorite guests are Sammi Alahmidi and Tom Ficchini. You doing a great job and I am very proud of our young Muslim men and women. They are a great generation and very active in all aspects of life
Really did appreciate your latest podcast-monologue. However the language used means you're missing a particular subset of people. Contrary to what others have said about it sounding scripted, I think it was nice that you put that much effort into it. With time the cadence and tempo will come. After all you are our Waitrose there are enough Sainsburys out there!
i have mixed feelings with respect to those who are invited.
i am grateful that it brings together various voices from the diaspora.
also very grateful that brining about the movers and shakers in the muslim Ummah whether they are in the West or the Middle East
at the same time, i discriminate in watching topics that are overtly sectarian, and to that what i mean is that it presents the point view of a partyicular school, without challenging them by having participants from that school
i have stopped listening to your PODCATS, given that the current state of the political affairs of the muslim Ummah are so heightened in terms of sectarian identities, i find your guests re-enforcing that mentality, and that is sucha huge turn off.
I wish you all the best, but given the lack of impartiality, i have abandoned listening to guests or topics that enforce the sectarian mindset, but i do listen to other podcasts where the sectarian over-tones are lesser than other.
kuddos to pushing victimization as a marker of the sectarian identity

I greatly appreciate the longer conversations with your guests. It provides insight into what others are thinking who I would otherwise not hear from.
I find your blog very interesting.

Walaikum Assalam - enjoying the writing / monologues. Please continue and consider having guests for short segments on current events

Paul is a professional!
Yeah I think this is very good... As unscripted writtings produce more connection ....
I am also fan of bullet points idea
